Who are we?
Kirkbymoorside Library and Information Centre became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation in 2017, which means we are a registered Charity (no. 1169266), run by a Management Committee who are elected by the Members. We are totally independent of any other organisation but work in partnership with North Yorkshire Council.
What is our aim?
We want to provide a centre which is open to all, providing a safe place of contact, information and service to the community. We cater primarily for Kirkbymoorside and all surrounding villages, including the parishes of Appleton le Moors, Beadlam, Farndale, Harome, Hutton le Hole, Marton, Nawton, Normanby, Nunnington, Sinnington, Wombleton
How is it funded?
North Yorkshire Council provides the books and IT services and some support services. Our income is derived from library services (room hire, printing/photocopying charges, computer time, refreshments, fines, reservation charges etc.) The remaining income has to be generated through fundraising, donations, sponsorship and grant aid. The most important contribution, of course, comes from our volunteers, who give up their time to keep the library open!
Where do the books come from?
We are still part of the North Yorkshire family of libraries. North Yorkshire Council provides and rotates all our stock and provides the IT network as well as professional assistance for 7 hours a week.
